Raiden (playable character)

Gotta Get Them All

Below is a list of several things that you will need to get in order to have fun and keep yourself alive

~List of Items~

AP Sensor
A sensor that detects life forms. It tells you by making a vibration on the Dual Shock controller, the closer an enemy is the harder it vibrates. Not many people use this because they tend to shoot guards, however, the idea of the game is to be stealthy and not make contact which this item helps with.

Bandage
Stops Bleeding. When your life gauge is orange you are bleeding so use one of these. Using a bandage stops the bleeding and stops any blod trails for enemies to follow. Another way to stop bleeding is to crouch, however, you don't always have time to do this.

B.D.U (Battle Dress Uniform)
Same attire as the guards in the Shell 1 Core. Can't be used on it's own otherwise it won't work you must have an AKS-74u equipped. Be careful not to run into guards as the disguise will suddenly come off. (Great clothing to wear durring the whole Big Shell mission. Not only does it look cool, but it has several pockets and weapons attached to it, giving a more realistic sense to where Raiden keeps all his weapons and items.)

Body Armour
Cuts down amount of damage recieved from bullets. This is rear and can be found if you look. Over excessive use of the body armour will lead to a dissintergration of how much it cuts down on. Too much and it will be pretty useless. I suggest you leave it off until the final battle and perhaps the Tengu barricades. (Looks really cool when its equiped in the Arsenal chapters, along with the H.F blade, makes Raiden look more deadly and battle-ready)

Book
Magazine featuring scantilly clad women used to distract guards from their patrol. No you can't look through it but it comes in very handy in certain situations. Press square to put it on the floor. You can't pick up a book once you have put it down.

Box
There are various types of box throughout the game including a Zone of the Enders one. You can move around whilst under it and there is a hole to look out through when in first person. They are particularly useful for hiding in however if you use a wrong box in the wrong place the guard may become suspicious i.e don't use a "ZOE" box where there are "Orange" boxes. If a guard is suspicious and is about to tip over the box continually press square to end up getting him into a strangle hold.

Camera
Used in the tanker mission to take pictures. It can hold 8 pictures and you can overwrite old one's if you have to many the camera will automatically overwrite one. As Snake doesn't have a scope this can be used in it's place as it has a zoom feature.

Cigs
Snake's lucky charm. Can be used to see lasers and calm him with the same effect as Pentaze. Reduces his health however it will not completely kill him.

Coolant
It may be in the weapons list on the game but i don't consider it a weapon i consider it an item so it's here not in weapons. Used to disarm bombs, wake up sleeping guards, get rid of bugs and put out fires.

D. Mic (Directional Microphone)
The D. Mic amplifies sound by over 100x and is powerful enough to hear a person's heart beat and even their pacemaker! It also has the ability to penetrate walls and obstructions to focalize on conversations, but it only covers a limited distance. To hear the conversation properly you must the D. Mic to where the person is standing.

Dog Tags
You collect these identification tags from guards throughout the game. They are used to get bonus items after completing the game. To find out if you have a person's dog tags equip the camera/scope and hold triangle, if you have their dog tags it will show their name.

Level Key Cards
Throughout the game you are given various level key cards, these allow you to enter certain rooms giving you access to more weapons and items.

Magazine
Same as coolant spray I consider it an item so it's here. These are used to distract guards by throwing them. It could be used as a weapon to throw at a guard but will it have any effect? I don't think so.

Medicine
A flu remedy. If Snake/Raiden begin to sneeze quickly take this medicine as it will help before the sneezing gives you away. There is not so much need for it on the easier difficulties however in Hard, Extreme and in European Extreme you can get cold's very easily.

Mine Detector
Detects claymore mines and shows them on your radar in yellow. Crawl over them to pick them up and save giving yourself away and recieving damage.

MO Disk
A virus modeled after the FOXDIE virus program. This disk was written by Emma. it effectse the Arsenal AI. Only Emma knows how to use it so it has no use to you apart from to advance in the game.

N.V.G (Night Vision Goggles)
Found quite late in the game in the flooded corridors at the B2 level of the Shell 2 Core. Helps to see in the dark. No real use for them.

Skull Mask (Night Vision Goggles/Oxygen Tank)

Ok, not really considered to be an item, but the mask is equiped with two IR eye pieces and oxygen mouth piece which gives a greater oxygen meter. This was suppose to help Raiden see throughout the Big Shell if it were a dark place, but after realizing the lights in the struts are functioning, he ditches the mask quite early in the game. (Having this mask on, which completes Raiden's Skull Suit, gives him the appearance of the Symbiote Spider-Man!)

Pentazemin
Used in conjunction with the PSG1/PSG1-T to ease the shaking that Raiden is subject to and helps a lot with accuracy.

Phone
No real use. Cyborg Ninja/Mr.X gives it to you to help you out well in trouble. Basically if you can't work out that you should get rid of bugs and put out the fire with the coolant you get a text message telling you to use it.

Ration
Recovers health. If you have it equipped and your life drops to 0 then it will automatically boost your health. (Always equip it as a default)

Scope
Basically a pair of binoculars which have a zoom feature. You can also use this to check whether you have somebody's dog tags. Circle to zoom in, X to zoom out. You can;t move whilst these are equipped.

Sensor A & B
Used to detect bombs and made by Stillman. Sensor A detects Fatman's scented bombs, Sensor B detects Fatman's odourless bombs. Bomb's show up as a yellow area on the Radar.

Shaver
On Substance it's only available in Hard, Extreme and European Extreme,  in the first room where you are Raiden there is an electronic shaver found near the diving suits that Raiden will give to Pliskin later in the game. This will cause Pliskin/Snake to have a clean shaven look later in the game.

Thermal Goggles
These can detect heat via infrared waves. You can see guards from a distance, lasers, claymores etc. They can also be used to check for dog tags as they will show up as black over the guards red body.

SOCOM Supressor

This is a little tricky.  It's in Strut F - Warehouse. Go to the bottom floor.
If you go south on the bottom floor of the warehouse, you will see a hallway
with a door on the right and a door on the left. Take the one on the left
(you need a lvl. 1 card). Go into FPV (first person view) or use your binoculars to look around the bottom of the wall. You should see an air duct lookin thing. Crawl through that and you should end up in the other room. The suppressor should be floating right in front of you.

USP Supressor

Beat the game and then save. Start a new game with the saved info. Go to the Navigation Deck after you defeat Olga. Go to the place where you recieve the Thermal Goggles and you should find this weapon on the middle platform.

AKS-74u Supressor

This is found near around the battle area (or what's left of it) after the Harrier battle. Get on the pipe and few on the side of you for it. If you see it, you will have to flip to the side to get it. (This may take a couple tries before you cana ctually get over there without falling to a watery grave)

~List of Weapons~

Modified M9 Baretta (Silenced)
Modified to be a tranquilizer gun. Shoots tranquilizer darts to put guards to sleep. Slow as you must reload after each shot

USP
Snake's standard "bullet" gun which you recieve after beating Olga. Has both laser sight and torch. At first it is not silenced but after completing the game you can find the Suppressor near the thermal goggles.

Socum
Raiden's standard "bullet" gun. Has laser sight which isn't as useful as the "sight" on top of the gun. A suppressor can be found for this in the Strut F (Warehouse).

AKS-74u
Standard assualt rifle for Shell 1 Core guards. Use this with the B.D.U to impersonate a Shell 1 Core guard. Very useful when facing an attack team but perhaps not as useful as the M4. A Suppressor can be found for it and although it seems not to silence it a great deal the suppressor is pretty effective. slightly press square to aim and fully press to shoot.

M4 Automatic
More firepower than the AK but the time it take to reload leaves Raiden vulnerable to return fire. M4 ammo is hard to find without Snake giving it to you so use it only when absolutely necessary. Equipped with a laser sight. Operates like the AK except that when aiming you can press L1 to lock-on to a target.

PSG-1
Sniper Rifle. When equipped you get the view of the scope. Raiden tends to shake a lot so make sure you have plenty of Pentazemin handy to calm him. Zoom in with circle and out with X like the scope/camera and center the target with the crosshair on the scope. Although it seems to make a loud bang it is actually supressed so it is not as loud as it seems which is apparent when snipering the two guards after jumping down from the Strut L Perimeter.

PSG-1T
Same as PSG-1 but fires tranquillizer darts instead of bullets.

Stinger
Missle Launcher. Locks onto a target and homes in on it. Very distructive and can even make guards wet themselves with fear - literally.

RGB6
Grenade Launcher. Haven't used it much myself apart from against Vamp. Whilst equipped you are in first person. Use L1 to auto-adjust the gun to counterbalance the flying arc then press square to fire.

Nikita
Remote Controlled Missle Launcher. Once fired you have to steer the directional buttons. Can be moved left or right but not up or down. The up and down buttons speed up and slow down the missle.

HF.Blade
Decribed as a "high frequency blade" given to Raiden by Ninja (via Snake). It is controlled with the right analog stick or you can make a straight stabbing action by pressing it until the click. The blade can be reversed either on the red side (used to kill people) or the blue 'blunt' side which knocks them out. L1 can be used to defend and it can even deflect bullets although it won't stop all bullets.

Stun Grenade
Does exactly what it's called. It stuns people rendering them unconsciece for a short time. Very good when there are many guards i.e when there is an attack team after you.

Chaff Grenade
An electronic jamming device. It jam's Cyphers, Camera's etc. but it also effects your radar meaning you can't use it until the chaff has finished.

Grenade
Never used any myself but you know what they're for. Press square to throw it or hold it to make it go further, however, don't hold it too long otherwise boom goes Raiden.

C4
Plastic Explosives. Set the C4 with square and detonate it with circle. These have no set role in the game, however, they can be fun to use especially when setting a lot down and exploding them in quick succession.

Claymore Mines
Landmine that detects movement. If somebody walk over it, it will explode killing the person but be warned if there are more guards or there are cyphers around then it will automatically go into alert

~Boss Battles~

Olga Gurlukovich (Solid Snake)

On board the Tanker, Solid Snake spots a women soldier speaking to the terrorists by radio. He goes out and holds her up at gun point. As the Tanker turns and the rain stops, Olga and Snake challenge the other in a battle of skill in combat.

I suggest the first two things you do should be to take out the light and green tarp. The best thing to do is confuse Olga. Whilst she is running toward the back or hiding behind a box quickly roll to the opposite side and hide. She will continue to shoot at the place where you were and you can then have a clean shot.

Note: You cannot take out the light or green tarp on extreme and european extreme modes!

Corridor Shootout (Solid Snake)

While walking through the corridors of the Discovery Tanker, Snake takes cover as a group of terrorists patrol the very corridor Snake is on, and they intend to guard it with their lives. As they walk closer, Snake grips his gun and gets ready for a fight to the death as the terrorist's scream "Who goes there?!?"

When the shoot out first begins, get to the nearest box as soon as possible. When the guards start shooting, peek around the corner of the box and throw a stun gernade (if you have any). That should take care of the first three guards (maybe even the grenade guard in the back if you time it right). After this happens three more guards come running at you, get out your USP and blast away until only their blood spilling from their bodies is the only thing moving besides you.

Fortune (Raiden)

After defusing the final explosive, Raiden meets up with Fortune, the women who cannot be killed..but that doesn't mean you can't! Raiden soon hides behind anything in sight to keep Fortune guessing intill she lets her guard down long enough for him escape the unending blaze of death.

You cannot beat her so don't waste your ammo. Just run around and avoid getting hit until you are contacted on your codec and the cut scene follows

Fatman (Raiden)

Defusing the bomb left by Fatman, the large madman shows up on the scene and sealing the victory of Peter Stillman's death with the corpse of Raiden! To let the soul of Stillman be at ease, Raiden holds his gun and coolent close, accepting Fatman's challenge.

First freeze the two bombs with the Coolant. Now run around with the Socom equiped by holding L1. When you are in range of Fatman hold L1 and run towards him firing. You will knock him down so go into first person mode and aim at his head as you have a clean shot. Another good way to get him down is to either shoot his skates or plant claymores.

Harrier (Raiden and Solid Snake)

As Solidus Snake and Vamp try to take on Kasaka, Snake throws Raiden the Stinger, giving him the responsibility to shoot down the Harrier. Time to prove yourself to Solid Snake and make him proud.

Snake will give you a Stinger at the start don't try to use any other weapon. Make sure you are locked onto the Harrier before firing and keep it locked on until it has hit the Harrier. When the harrier fires at you go down the stairs so that the missiles can't hit you. Once it's health is below half it will fire missiles that destroy part of the bridge. Again to dodge them go downstairs and squat between the first box and the wire railing. Keep an eye on where the Harrier is it will show up as red on the radar. It is fairly easy to beat on Normal mode and below, if you can beat it on Normal then not much more is needed for Hard mode.

Vamp (Raiden)

Relising that Vamp is still "alive", Raiden must get past Vamp to reach Emma. Using the weapons he holds with him, Raiden prepares himself to take on the immortal creature and in the process trying not to fall into the endless water.

Use the Socom to break the lights so that he can't freeze you in one spot. Use the RGB6 to take away o2 from Vamp when he is under water and when he is out of the water use the Stinger to take away his health. This is pretty straight forward until the harder levels of the game, however, if you are having trouble doing it this way then plant C4 and Claymore's around and blow the C4 when Vamp is near. The Claymore's will automatically go off if he walks over them. When planting C4/Claymores remember that he tends to jump out of the water on the North West side of the room.

Test of a Sniper (Raiden)

Crossing the unstable bridge to Shell 1, while being protected by her Guardian Angels: Snake and Raiden; rising from the depths of the ocean appears Vamp for one final showdown. Sweat drips down Raiden's forehead as he realizes that Snake cannot get a clear shot of Vamp, since the bloodsucker has her by the throat. He grips his PSG-1,knowing that this last shot will determine Emma's life, and their own.

Quickly, get some pentazemin into your system and zoom in as close as you can to Emma and Vamp. Depending on the difficulty, Vamp can take several hits in the skull. Wait for the moments when you have a clear shot of his head and remember, DO NOT HIT EMMA!!

Tortured To Death

After regaining conciousness from being knocked out by Mr.X, Raiden awakens at the sight that he has been stripped of both is weapons and clothes! Not only that he's completely naked, but he's strapped up to a torture bed titled "The Memory of Shadow Moses". The next thing he knows, Solidus's metal snake arm is in fornt of him sending painful and unbareable signals which feels as if burning through his mind....

To stop Raiden from completely going insane and killing his brain, quicly press the Action Button repeatedly to see Raiden's mind focused. This will be harder to accomplish on higher difficulties, so be prepared to press the button to hell.

Two Against An Army (Raiden and Solid Snake)

After Raiden clothes himself back into his Skull suit and protects his chest with body armour, he takes out his SOCOM and straps his blade behind his back. Slowly he and Snake walk through the holds, trying to reach the surface of Arsenal Gear. Above Snake notices a CYPHER watching them two, and as the alarm blazes into the background and an army of Tengus flood their pathway; Snake and Raiden nod to the other as they face the army of hell.

This is a good time to use your body armour and save your rations (unless you really need them for this battle). Though you play as Raiden, Snake will help you defeat the Tengu soldiers. Equiping your H.F blade is a good idea as the blocking function can block mostly every bullet that comes in contact with you. Hiding behind some protective walls will also help you prevent from being shot. Make sure Snake does not die because if he fails, you fail.

Two Against An Army 2 (Raiden and Solid Snake)

After Snake and Raiden bring the Tengu soldiers to their death, they proceed to the next hold. Though once both of them reach the middle of the room, another group of Tengu soldiers jump from the upper levels and surround them. Snake and Raiden slowly go back-to-back to eachother and prepare for another battle of blood.

Again, I recommend you use your body armour and if you're hurt, use rations to fix it up. As with the body armour, I also recommend to keep using your sword. This battle is pretty much the same as the last one, except now you have nothing to hide behind. Kill the soldiers at any means possible and make sure Snake does not die.

Metal Gear RAY's (Raiden)

"We will because we have no other choice", with those words within Raiden's soul. He takes out his Stinger and prepares himself for a battle of power. Time to see if the White Devil can beat the monster of Metal.

Use Chaff Grenade's to block their system for a bit. The most effective way to kill them is to first hit the knee it will go down and then shoot it's head this takes off far more energy than just shooting it in the head or knee. The amount of RAY's you have to kill depends on what difficulty level you are doing it on

Note:On some difficulties you must destroy the Metal Gear titled "RAY-RO5E"

The Choke of Death (Raiden)

After regaining conscience from earlier being temperarity unconscience from Solidus's metal arms, he opens his weakend eyes and see's Solidus stand before him. Raiden realizes not only that he is disarmed, but also handcuffed. Before Raiden can fully realize what's going on, he is lifted from the ground by Solidus's metal arms as he shouts "I'll squeeze the answers out of you instead my son"

On every difficulties, just rapidily press the action button. I mean really press it, give the damn button all you got! Keep trying so that Raiden's neck muscles won't give out and break his neck.

Solidus Snake (Raiden)

The winds of fate blow through the air as a blaze of angelic birds fill the skies of the future. Solidus holding his swords close, Raiden gripping the blade of the ninja. The challenge which holds the very balance of hope in it's grasp. The creation of a perfect warrior VS the boy formed into the perfect warrior. Who will win? The answer lies within the end of the blade..

As the battle starts, put on your body armour once more and gather the rations around the roof top (if there is any at all). The trick to beating solidus is circling around him counter-clock wise, because since he lost his left eye, his vision will be limited to his left. To avoid his missles, you can either out run them, or roll under them. His fire walk is a little tricky to avoid, and if you catch on fire and have enough time to do so, put on your B.D.U then switch it back with the body armour (this should put out the fire). When your health is reaching slow, use a ration but keep your body armour on. Find any tactic you can find to deliver a few slices into his suit.
